SANAD: Needs of Small Businesses

SANAD TAF wanted to conduct a study on MSMEs in Lebanon and their needs for future financial and non-financial support. The objective of the study was three-fold: to assess the situation of small businesses and the challenges they face, to identify topics for which businesses are in need of capacity building in their heavily modified operating environment, and thirdly to identify local institutions that are well-positioned and able to provide the needed support to MSMEs, financial or other. The project was conducted in collaboration with the Lebanese Microfinance Association (“LMFA”). The study entailed a desk research component which would provide an overview of the MSME sector in Lebanon. This was followed by primary research entailing 9 Key Informant Interviews and a survey of 300 MSMEs located in Greater Beirut and Tripoli.
