GIZ: Development of Deprived Urban Areas in North Lebanon

Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) is implementing the “Local Development Programme for Deprived Urban Areas in North Lebanon” whose main target groups are vulnerable women and youth. The project is being implemented in North Lebanon – specifically Tripoli and surrounding areas. The program’s objectives are 1) Reduction of the Social Frustration in North Lebanon by specifically tackling social frustration linked to a. poverty-unemployment and b. poor environment urban areas and 2) Strengthening of inter-communitarian relations in North Lebanon at the level of youth and children. A baseline and end line survey were conducted to measure to which extent inter-communitarian exchange as a result of program activities contributed to a more positive attitude towards people of other communities. Three to five different activities undertaken by GIZ were assessed. In total, 1,000 CATI surveys were conducted with youth residing in Tripoli.
